Selamat siang! Term 3-Week 4-2008
It’s been a wet, cold week, however the children have taken it in their stride and remained happy inside the classroom and eager to learn. Today, with a bit of sunshine and warmer temperatures we ventured outside and the beautiful equipment greatly excited stage 1 and 2 students. Most of the seniors had fun with some ball sports.
The children said that the Bash at Boorowa was fun last week. They seeing the cars and socialising with the children from Boorowa Central. It must be very different for our children to visit a combined primary, infants and high school.
Our stage 3 children have watched the movie “Bridge to Teribathia” and participated in discussion sessions. We are now reading the book and discussing each chapter and the adaptions and camera shots used to cause special effects in the movie. At the Dubbo Conference last week one of the workshops featured an animated movie program called “Kahootz 3”. It is an interesting program that produces high quality scenes for animated movies. We will use the program to produce the scenes for our productions if our copy arrives in time. The assessment tasks for this unit will be on storyboard and scriptwriting activities using adaptions between a chosen text and a produced scene to cause effects as seen in Terabithia.
Wade, Ella, Emma, Maddie and Sam played touch football last Friday in a combined schools team against Crookwell Public School. Crookwell was victorious, but that didn’t matter as all children said that it was fun and muddy.
Our combined activity day at Binda on Friday, 1st
August was very successful though wet. We completed our artwork with Cecille
and Elizabeth, which looked really spectacular. It was exhibited recently at
Queanbeyan as advertised. Our year 5 and 6 children debated Binda seniors
and our primary students held an extra debate on another topic. The children
spoke well and were scored appropriately. We also painted a boomerang and
had an exciting combined indoor hockey match.

Next Wednesday (20th August) we will have a Book Parade at 10am where students have been asked to dress up as a book character of their choice, which will be followed by a presentation of awards by the Bigga CWA for the International Projects completed earlier this term. A delicious morning tea provided by the P&C will complete the morning. The school will have books from Scholastic Book Fair on sale, which helps fund our library. Everyone is welcome.
Anne has been busy ringing around for our excursion coming up in term 4. The bus company can take us to Dubbo on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (5th, 6th , 7th November).
Wednesday: The driver will pick up Binda children at 8:50 – 9am and travel to our school for a 9:30 pick up. We hope to be in Orange for a packed picnic lunch in the park by 12:00. We will leave at 12:45 for Dubbo, stopping at Jedda Boomerangs (-$7 pp.) around 2:30. This includes a tour of the factory to see how a boomerang is made. The boomerang will have the school name on it and be
presented to the school. This will be followed by lessons on boomerang throwing. (Children may be able to purchase a boomerang at this time.) After the boomerangs we will be off to Wellington Caves, where we will spend the first night (-$60.50 each which includes accommodation, dinner, breakfast, tour of cave and tour of mine.) We will have dinner then go for a night cave tour.
Thursday: Breakfast first (8:30) followed by the mine tour (probably 9-10ish) then have morning tea (not costed yet). We will have some ball games then leave for Dubbo at 11am. Lunch will be at McDonalds from 12 -1pm, when we leave for the Gaol guided tour (1:15) followed by the performance at 2:30 (-$4 per child and $12 per adult with performance free). We will visit the Dubbo Cultural Centre (free) and leave for the Zoo at 4:30. The Zoo Snooze ($60 per student and $65 per adult) includes greeting the animals at 5pm in the Education Centre, followed by a full BBQ dinner, a night walk, toasting marshmallows by a camp fire and sleeping in zoo tents (-need to take thin mattress and sleeping bag or swag).
Friday: We start with an early morning walk to get a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the animals before they are released for the day, then breakfast in the dining room. We board the bus to drive around the zoo to look at the animals in their natural habitats.
After the zoo we have lunch in Dubbo (-probably Subway), then travel on to the Parkes Observatory ($5 each). We experience a 3D theatre show for 20mins followed by a tour of the observatory all of which takes about an hour.
At the moment the cost per student is approximately $136.50 plus pocket money for 2 lunches, morning tea, snacks and souvenirs. Cost for adults =$149.50 at present. This does not cover the bus fare. CAP will fund $1000 towards the fare. We haven’t been quoted a price yet. The bus is a 54 seater so there shouldn’t be a problem with seating.
Please let us know how many would like to go (parents and children) as soon as possible so that we can fully organise costs and confirm accommodation and tour reservations.
Sampai jumpa!
